Hi, my name is Mike and I’m the man behind Southern Utah Cares. I was born in southern Nevada, but I’ve lived half my life in beautiful southern Utah. I love it here and plan on staying because of the scenery, small town feel, and friendly people.

the barrier to change isn’t too little caring, it’s too much complexity

After I finished college my wife and I realized that I needed to rethink my career plans, which ultimately led me to a focus on charity and service, since I find that I’m happiest when I’m helping others. It didn’t take long to realize that it can be a challenge to find out about volunteer opportunities in the area, as well as know what services are available to help the community. I thought there might be a way to simplify things just by gathering all the services and opportunities together in one place, making them easy to find. After all, as Bill Gates said in a commencement speech at Harvard University, “the barrier to change isn’t too little caring, it’s too much complexity.”

I’m hoping that Southern Utah Cares can be a way to expand the volunteer opportunities in the area and get more people involved in our community. If we can make it easy to find ways to help others we can all benefit from the simple joy that comes from service. Enjoy!
